At Germain Hotels, you can rest easy knowing that every aspect of your stay has been thoughtfully designed. From efficient building practices to waste reduction and sourcing products locally, we treat sustainability as a standard, not an afterthought.
Behind everything you see in our hotels –and even what you don’t–is a genuine, conscious approach. Whenever we can reduce our footprint, we do. By choosing responsible, reusable, and renewable options, we continually strive to enhance your experience, down to the smallest detail.

Our gardens are designed to produce food as responsibly as possible: without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, with beehives to support pollination, and using compost. This pursuit of freshness is reflected in all our restaurants, and when it isn’t possible to grow on site, we turn to local market gardeners.

LEED Gold certified, this hotel was built using recycled materials, energy-efficient technologies, and Canadian-made furniture. It exemplifies the responsible construction practices we apply to all our projects across the country.

We collaborated with Canadian artist Michelle Hoogveld, who created a 171-foot-high mural on the hotel’s façade. This bold gesture illustrates our commitment to showcasing local artwork, both large and small, across all our hotels.

In Ottawa, we use the Too Good To Go app to rescue unsold items from the day. This initiative complements the many strategies implemented by our teams across the country to reduce food waste.

Our chef works closely with local fishermen, true experts of the region. This close collaboration ensures exceptional traceability and showcases the best of regional products. Our commitment to sustainable fishing extends beyond this partnership: many of our chefs embrace this approach, and our restaurants in Québec are proudly Fourchette bleue certified.

We offer bicycles for you to explore the city, and you can also take advantage of the local bike-sharing service. With their prime locations, our hotels encourage active travel and easy access to public transportation.
In each hotel, a dedicated champion turns our ambitions into concrete action. Trained, motivated, and driven, this person leads local initiatives, sparks new ideas, and takes on quarterly challenges. It’s a simple way to ensure our commitments come to life every day, for both our teams and our guests.

All our General Managers are trained to make decisions aligned with our sustainability commitments. They make these commitments concrete by signing a charter. Since 2025, a performance incentive has recognized teams that actively put these commitments into practice.

In 2024, we completed our first greenhouse gas (GHG) assessment, including Scopes 1 and 2 and, where data was available, Scope 3, following the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 standard. This assessment allowed us to identify areas where our actions would have the greatest impact and to ensure that our growth remains aligned with reducing our overall footprint.
