The sun is shining and the weather is finally warm: there is no way we are spending any more time indoor! This summer, we are heading outside to visit our gorgeous province and enjoy all that it has to offer.
Montreal
Montreal has a brand new Express Bike Network, allowing locals and tourists to explore the city and visit its attractions while riding a bike. First stop: head for rue Saint-Denis, which has recently undergone a complete makeover, making the street bike-friendly. There are many cute stores to visit, such as bookstores, unique clothing boutiques and pretty little cafes.
Has this bike ride made you hungry? We thought so. Take a seat on the patio at Bar Flâneur and enjoy Oyster o’clock and a glass of bubbles. The perfect pairing after a day outside!
An alternative route could be to follow the Canal-de-Lachine on a Bixi and go to the Atwater Market to stock up on provisions for a picnic on the banks of the canal. You will find yourself in a totally different vibe than downtown Montreal, but nonetheless very charming!
In mid-August, the popular festival of public art Mural public will return taking St-Laurent Boulevard by storm. Every year, local and international artists adorn the city with colourful murals. Don’t forget to bring your camera (your phone will do too!) as it’s the perfect setup for pictures!
We will then await you for a relaxing night of signature comfort at the Le Germain Hotel Montreal or at the Alt Hotel Montreal.
Montérégie
Head to Radisson Park in Brossard for a day of quiet sailing on the Saint-Jacques River on a canoe or a kayak. The excursion, which takes place in a half-wild, half-urban landscape, is suitable for everyone and should only take an hour or two to complete the round trip.
We you feeling more for a bike ride? Then take advantage of our new bike package offered at the Alt Hotel Quartier DIX30. Along with your one-night stay at the hotel, you also get free storage of your bike, a map of the region's bike paths, a nutritious snack to bring with you, free parking and more.
At the end of the day, it's on the Bar Les Cousins patio that you should find yourself! With its impressive collection of local gins, you will certainly find something to your liking.
We highly recommend that you try the Unapologetically me cocktail. Made with Romeo’s watermelon gin and a dash of feta-basil-mint syrup, you cannot find anything as fresh as this!
Quebec
Is Quebec City home of the best ice cream in the province? We tend to think so. Here, follow the guide!
On your way to île d’Orléans, it is mandatory (yes, you read that correctly!) to visit the Maison Cassis Mona et Filles. Take a trip to their wine cellar where you can taste their alcohols as well as other blackcurrant flavored products.
Next stop: the Espace Félix Leclerc, also located on the island. Learn about the famous singer-songwriter-poet-writer through permanent and temporary exhibitions. We suggest you also take some time to hike along the trails that are punctuated with Leclerc’s poetry.
It’s finally time to taste the best ice cream in town! Stop by Tutto Gelato, a true institution, and try some of their decadent flavours such as mascarpone, nougat, rice pudding or spicy chocolate. Oh, there are so many to choose from!
The Distillery Stadaconé, located in the Vieux-Limoilou neighbourhood, has to be a part of your itinerary. The guided tour of the distillery is in fact an escape game taking place on an explorer vessel back in Jacques Cartier’s era. This unique experience is definitely a must this summer!
End your day with a long walk through the streets of Quebec City to discover the 8th edition of Passages insolites.
Charlevoix
When we think of the magnificent region of Charlevoix, what comes to mind is the St-Lawrence River, the mountains, hiking and road biking. But you never think of… mushrooms.
Located in La Malbaie, about a 50-minute drive from Baie-Saint-Paul, you can visit Champignons Charlevoix, a mushroom farm specializing in oyster mushrooms. Find out how it's grown, then drop by the shop to stock up on groceries.
Back at the Hotel & Spa Le Germain Charlevoix, pick up your BBQ box from the Le Bercail and have a picnic on the beach.
End your day with an outdoor show on the terrace of the Le Bercail. After several months without being able to attend a live show, we are convinced that listening to music outside will be even more satisfying than before.
