Four Suppliers we Love (and we think you will, too)

Ever since Germain Hotels launched their first property in 1988—Hôtel Germain-des-Prés in Quebec City, later converted to an Alt Hotel—the company has prioritized local suppliers. Each one is carefully selected to reflect the company’s values. And in this article, you’ll also meet a few more recent favourites who are partnering with our different properties.

To discover the suppliers who have been part of the Germain Hotels story from day one, start here!

Iris + Arlo Menstrual Products

After a successful pilot project, menstrual products from the Canadian company Iris + Arlo can now be found in the guest rooms of all 20 Germain Hotels properties, as well as in their public restrooms.

“Feminine hygiene products should be considered the same as bathroom tissue: essential, accessible, and always available,” says Marie Pier Germain, Co-President of Germain Hotels.

“Iris + Arlo offers menstrual products with the highest number of eco-responsible elements, from manufacturing to packaging,” explains Justine Nadeau, Project Manager, Sustainability at Germain Hotels. “This aligns perfectly with our vision for local sourcing. Their products are plastic-free, chemical-free, and made with 100% certified organic cotton. We also appreciate their strong social mission: For each sale, they donate products to organizations tackling the issue of menstrual poverty.”

Chronicle Coffee

In select Germain Hotels’ properties in western Canada, the superior cup of joe you sip hails from Chronicle Coffee. The Alberta roaster champions transparency, traceability, and direct sourcing from small producers in Mexico, Guatemala, Ethiopia, and Colombia.

They have also developed an ongoing collaboration program that allows them to conduct research, develop and share knowledge, and give back directly to the growers.

In addition to reducing waste and promoting recycling, the company encourages its partners to implement sustainable initiatives such as reusable packaging options and renewable energy sources.

‘UULTRAA’-cool private label beer

It all started back in 2021, when Germain Hotels launched a project to showcase Québec-crafted beer in its properties across the country. Later, to make the experience even more localized, the company began partnering with local breweries in each area. In addition to simplifying the journey from hops to hotel, this approach also connects guests to the unique flavours of the place they’re visiting.

Each partner creates two signature beers under the Alt Hotel and Le Germain Hotel banners. The Alt beer has a bright, tangy profile with plenty of character, while the Le Germain one is more classic, a smooth blonde with subtle malt notes.

To give the project extra creative flair, Germain Hotels invited artist Karl-Frédéric Anctil (UULTRAA) to design the beer labels. His playful artwork makes each bottle stand out while adding an artistic edge to the entire guest experience, right down to the minibar.

Dose

It all began with founders Gen and Raph’s desire to eat more vegetables. In their tiny kitchen in the Old Port of Montreal, they crafted their first juices… and Dose was born. While the company has since outgrown that little kitchen, it remains committed to creating healthy products—cold-pressed juices, shots, and smoothies—certified by Ecocert Canada, USDA Organic, and Kosher, and sold in glass bottles. The majority of their suppliers are Canadian, and the company’s production facility is located in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
