Discover East Village in Calgary

The new trendy neighborhood in Calgary.

The East Village in Calgary is a neighborhood bordered by the railroad and the Bow River, going up to the Central Library in Calgary and a little after the Langevin Bridge. A revitalized neighborhood where everything is within walking distance. You can go from one end to the other in less than fifteen minutes (if you don't stop shopping, in the meantime!).

Here are our suggestions for places to visit in the vicinity when staying at Alt Hotel Calgary East Village.

WHAT TO SEE

Calgary Central Library - This building is just as impressive from the outside as from the inside. Take the time to see it from all possible angles, as every corner looks different from the other. Then come inside and have a look, it's free! You can settle down to read a book quietly or simply admire the view of the city.

Studio Bell - An unavoidable stop for music lovers! Learn a great deal about the history of Canadian music while enjoying the many interactive attractions.

Riverwalk - In good weather (which is particularly customary in Calgary), you have to go for a walk on the Riverwalk, a pedestrian and bicycle path that runs along the Bow River. You will see ducks, hares and several species of birds. Yes, even in the heart of downtown!

WHERE TO EAT AND DRINK

For a coffee:

Rosso Coffee Roasters from Studio Bell - This small local coffee chain offers a delicious menu of hot and cold beverages as well as pastries and sandwiches. The one in the Studio Bell is particularly beautiful with its large ceilings and electric blue walls decorated with guitars.

For brunch and lunch:

Chix Eggshop - Located in the Alt Hotel Calgary East Village, this is the perfect place to meet for brunch and lunch. What you must try: the French toast pie, the fried chicken sandwich and the bag of bacon.

For dinner :

Charbar - In the historic Simmons building, Charbar restaurant, by chefs Connie de Sousa and John Jackson, serves Albertan grills in a warm and lively atmosphere. Our favourite are the beef empanadas: a real treat!

Booker’s BBQ Grill and Crab Shack - A popular spot where to eat the best chicken wings.

For a drink:

YARDARM - This is the coolest place in the East Village to meet friends and have a drink. This cocktail bar serves delicious elixirs of the gods (their words, not ours!) with ranging from sweet and fruity to robust and aromatic.

WHERE TO SHOP

Liz & Lottie - A lovely shop filled with household goods, original gifts, delicate stationery and local products.

East Village Discovery Centre - The perfect place to learn more about the neighborhood, but also to find out-of-the-ordinary souvenirs, including pairs of stockings with Calgarian designs.
