It's no secret: Christiane Germain has a busy schedule! The co-president of Germain Hôtels hops from project to project; however, she still finds the time to take care of herself on a daily basis. To renew her energy when she most needs it, Christiane Germain likes to try new things, meet people and be on the go. So she makes a point of punctuating her routine with small one-off projects, big breaths of fresh air and quality time with family.
Perhaps some of her tips will inspire you to pause for a moment and shake up your routine, the Christiane Germain way!
Exercise regularly
I like to move. Exercising does my body and soul good. When I work out, whether at the fabulous gym at Le Germain Hotel Montreal, on cross-country ski trails or on my yoga mat, I disconnect completely and clear my head. It’s my way of coming back to the present moment so I can better get on with the rest of my day.
Practice yoga
Even though my schedule is packed, practising my yoga routine frees my mind, dissolves my tension and makes me feel so open and free. With the help of my coach Annie Préfontaine, I practice a simple yoga routine, which consists mostly of stretching and breathing exercises. I like to do it in the morning because I feel the benefits of it all day and in all my other sports activities.
Decorating my home
I’m very fond of interior design, art, and finding beautiful objects to decorate my apartment. I try to have small decorating projects that keep me busy from time to time. And when that’s the case, I like to give myself a few minutes to think about it during the day; it relaxes me.
Cooking
I take great pleasure in trying new recipes. I recently found this one from Josée di Stasio, for braised beef with star anise. It’s superb! I’ve also been taking some old cookbooks out of a closet and am currently going through them to see what little treasures I might find. I can't wait to host people at home and cook for them.
Taking care of my pet
I got a new dog in summer 2021, named Shabo! It's a beautiful little dog, a poodle, and I’m so happy to have him in my life. We go for walks every day. It forces me to get some fresh air and put work on hold for a few minutes. Taking care of him keeps me busy and takes my mind off other things.
Travelling
I can't wait to get back to travelling across the country, visiting the teams in our hotels, but also travelling around the globe. Simply thinking about planning my next getaway fills me with energy and excitement. I’ve missed it so much, as travelling also means meeting new people, seeing new things. Travelling, or even just changing cities for a few days, renews my energy, my creativity. It's stimulating.
Spending time with my family
I had the enormous joy of welcoming my third grandchild in January 2022. My daughter Marie Pier gave birth to a healthy baby girl, beautiful Charlotte. After all we’ve been through, I see this as a sign that life does go on. A birth refocuses your priorities and certainly puts everything into perspective. Spending time with my grandchildren fills me with happiness.
