Christiane Germain, co-president and co-founder of Groupe Germain Hospitalité, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Schaay as General Manager of ALT Hotel Halifax Stanfield. The modern $27M, 169-room hotel is currently under construction at Halifax Stanfield International Airport and is taking reservations to welcome its first guests this spring.
"Mark joined our team in 2009 for the opening of Hôtel Le Germain Calgary and has been a key player in the success of our brand," said Christiane Germain. "His innate team spirit and sense of hospitality will certainly help create a great working environment for our employees and make our guests feel right at home when our newest ALT Hotel opens."
From openings and re-franchising, to operations and housekeeping, Mark has played a variety of pivotal roles during his 14 year-career in the hospitality sector. Originally from Calgary, he graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and obtained two Clefs d'or from the esteemed Union internationale des concierges d'hôtels. He recently acted as Vice Director for the Alberta chapter of Les Clefs d'or Canada. In 2005, Mark was also awarded the prestigious Mayor's White Hat Award in Calgary for his commitment to the industry and remarkable leadership abilities.
Mark moved East in December with his family to oversee the final stages of construction and prepare for the opening of ALT Hotel Halifax Stanfield.
"I fell in love with Halifax during my frequent trips to visit my in-laws. My wife grew up in Halifax and we appreciate that Groupe Germain Hospitalité has provided us with the perfect opportunity to relocate and raise our family here," said Mark Schaay, General Manager of ALT Hotel Halifax Stanfield. "I am thrilled to be in Halifax and look forward to becoming an active member of the local community."
