Fall in St. John’s

What to eat, drink and see to stay cozy in and around St. John’s, Newfoundland, this fall.

Fall is my favourite season. I love the clothes, the weather, the beautiful colours, the light, the soups… all of it. I put together a few of my favourite places to eat, drink and see to stay cozy in and around St. John’s during this crisp time of the year.

A fall picnic

Dress well, grab a picnic and go on an adventure! I particularly love the Shoreline Heritage Walking Trail in Bay Roberts. Don’t feel like going that far? You can walk up Signal Hill or enjoy your picnic looking at the Narrows from Alt Hotel’s patio.

A brunch to warm your soul

Who does not love brunch? Comfort food (hollandaise, somebody?), cocktails for breakfast and good company make for a great way to spend the day. My favourite brunch, you ask? Mallard Cottage for the ultra cozy setting, great food and the best bloody ceasar in town.

Bonus: Try our afternoon tea experience, a decadent menu featuring teas and our Chef selection of savories, scones and many sweets. Book your table at www.terrerestaurant.com or by phone (709-383-2136). Available Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A brewery tour

Newfoundlanders do love their beers, so it’s no surprise that we have great microbreweries all around the province. In St. John’s, I do have a soft spot for Bannerman Brewing Co, for they have great beers and a stunning room. I also love the tap room at Quidi Vidi Brewery, where my partner and I like to sit by the window, look at fishing stages and play board games all afternoon long.

A warm cocktail

There is nothing like a delicious, warm cocktail to make you enjoy fall even more. We do amazing ones at Terre, obviously, but I also love to enjoy quirky craft cocktails at Toslow as well as at No4.

If you are in the mood for a short ride, go visit Newfoundland Distillery Company. Their new tasting room is absolutely gorgeous and right by the water. (Note that it’s about 45 minutes away from St. John’s – so drink responsibly.)

A cultural experience

For the art, for the history, for the unique point of view on St. John’s and the harbour, there is nothing quite like a visit to The Rooms on a fall day. It’s family friendly and the café is a great spot for lunch.

Voilà! Have a great cozy fall on the Rock!
