A coffee with Alexis Templeton

A coffee with Alexis Templeton - Ceramist of great talent from St. John's.

“My glazing styles have evolved in the 30 years I have been making dishes, but I am best known for my crystalline glazes. They remind me of water and ice and are very representative of here,” says celebrated St. John’s potter Alexis Templeton, whose fine ceramic work is often inspired by Newfoundland and Labrador’s strength and beauty. A few years ago she began making dishes for the rockstar St. John’s restaurant, Raymonds, and Templeton, who loves making dishes that people can use every day, says it’s been exciting to see those dishes in use. Find her work year-round in her Quidi Vidi Road studio.

Alexis Templeton’s favourites:

Wander the paths around Signal Hill: “The main trails are beautiful, but the paths are quieter and more interesting.

The evening sky behind the Johnson Geo Centre is spectacular.”

Enjoy morning coffee at Fixed Coffee and Baking or The Battery Café.

Walk into Harbourside Park or skate on the Loop in Bannerman Park come winter.

“Everyone needs the experience of eating at Raymonds, one of Canada’s top 10 restaurants (where chef de cuisine Ross Larkin just won Top Chef Canada),” she says. “Their food is hyper-local, and so are their dishes—I made many of them!”
