5 Canadian cities to visit according to Christiane Germain

Christiane travels a lot, both in Canada and abroad. She shares her favourite Canadian cities to visit for a long weekend or a vacation.

One of the greatest things about my job is that it gives me the chance to travel across Canada and discover so many fantastic cities and wonderful people. Here are my 5 favourites (a very difficult choice to make) ... and a bonus.

QUEBEC CITY

It’s my hometown and also the birthplace of Group Germain Hotels. Québec City has a special place in my heart and that of our family. My favourites in this beautiful city ( including, of course, Le Bistango restaurant and our two properties) ? L’Échaudé restaurant and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.

ST. JOHN'S

Like my niece Clarah, I fell in love with this small city in Atlantic Canada. The people are extraordinarily warm and the scenery is breathtaking. It’s a trip that I encourage you to take this summer!

OTTAWA

The capital of our beautiful country is a great city! It’s sometimes thought of as a little ... quiet, but trust me it’s not. Places to visit (and savour) during your stay at Le Germain Hotel Ottawa or at Alt Hotel Ottawa: Norca Restaurant & Bar at the Le Germain Hotel, and Riviera restaurant, nearby.

WINNIPEG

There are a number of reasons to love Winnipeg, for its architecture (definitely!), and its excellent restaurants, but it's the Canadian Museum for Human Rights that, for me, is the star of the city. Expect a touching visit.

MONTRÉAL

My adopted city, where I’ve lived for several years. I like its openness, its wonderful energy, its intense seasons. In Montréal, you’ll often find me sitting at the bar at Graziella restaurant - in my opinion, the best Italian restaurant in town.

Bonus : The Rockies. Ok - I know, it's not a city, but it's one of the wonders of our country and I had to tell you about it. To experience the Rockies, take a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer, an amazing train journey through the mountains.

Happy exploring!
